I know I’m not the only one who gets Series Fatigue. You know, when you read a bunch of books in a series and just feel like you need something, anything, else to read instead. It’s not for lack of loving the series in question. It’s just the need of something new, something different.
Well, that’s where I am right now. In the Series Fatigue club. It happens to me more and more as an adult than it ever did when I was younger. It used to be that I could read an entire series without stopping and not want to read anything else but that series. Sometimes I even read a series on repeat because I just couldn’t get enough.
But since I have gotten older, I have noticed that almost any series that is more than two books starts to give me fatigue. Again, it’s not for lack of love…it’s just my mood changes so often that I need something new to engage with before I can go back to the series.
I’m currently dealing with this right now with the Dungeon Crawler Carl series. I LOVE these books. Absolutely love them. But I am dealing with series fatigue something fierce and I feel like I’m just waffling about in the middle of book seven, This Inevitable Ruin. The book is amazing, as are all of the rest, but I just can’t keep myself focused on it and want to read something else to kinda cleanse the palate. So, I have been trying to mix in other books but I made the mistake of choosing two other fantasy/speculative fiction books so now I’m also dealing with fantasy fatigue.
I don’t know about you guys but being a mood/whim reader is exhausting. First world problems, huh?
Who else gets Series/Genre fatigue? What do you do to fix it other than just read something different for a while?
