The Gilmore Girls Book Challenge – My Challenge Books to Read in 2017

Hello friends and fellow bookworms!

For those who have just recently joined me, I decided a couple of weeks ago that I would complete a challenge in 2017 called The Gilmore Girls Book Challenge on The Book Wench Blog .

holidays-4

Based on the lists of books referenced in Gilmore Girls, my goal is to read at least 15 books ( 12 from the original series and 3 from the Netflix revival) in 2017.

I have shortened the massive list to 30 books to choose from: 26 from the original series and 4 from the revival. While my goal is 15 (no need to start off crazy since I will be reading a ton of other books as well) I would love to read all 30 of my choices.

I just wanted to check in with every since 2017 is looming ever closer and share my list of 30 books. I am listing them in no particular order. I will read them as fancy strikes.

1:  Angela’s Ashes by Frank McCourt

2: Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy

3: The Art of War by Sun Tzu

4: As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner

5: Atonement by Ian McEwan

6: The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath

7: Beloved by Toni Morrison

8: Bitch: In Praise of Difficult Women by Elizabeth Wurtzel

9: Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

10: The Crimson Petal and the White by Michel Faber

11: Everything Is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer

12: Girl, Interrupted by Susanna Kaysen

13: Gender Trouble by Judith Butler

14: Howl by Allen Ginsburg

15: The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan

16: Life of Pi by Yann Martel

17: The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold

18: The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri

19: Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens

20: On the Road by Jack Kerouac

21: Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar Nafisi ( I will read Lolita first, of course)

22: The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger

23: The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides

24: Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch by Gregory McGuire

25: A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess

26: Daughter of Fortune by Isabel Allende

27: I Feel Bad About My Neck by Nora Ephron

28: Wild by Cheryl Strayed

29: Trainspotting by Irvine Welsh

30: Consider the Lobster by David Foster Wallace

Any thoughts on my list? As always, I would love to have anyone join me! If you join, feel free to use the image above and the hashtag #thebookwenchgilmorebookchallenge

I like that we’ll both be reading “Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy” and “Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens.” It’s nice when books bring people together. That’s why I’m looking forward to this challenge so much. ❤
