In everyone’s life, there’s a split-second decision that can change everything…
For Larissa, it came when choosing who to ride home with after a concert. That night, she had no idea she’d met the perfect man. She and Chris are great friends, co-parenting a slightly unhinged rescue Yorkie, sharing their favorite books, and judging bread (pumpernickel for the win!). For the first time amid all her side hustles to scrape by, things finally feel easy.
But she didn’t choose Chris to drive her home all those months ago—she went with his best friend, and he became her boyfriend. All Chris wants is for Larissa to be happy. Standing by on the sidelines is slowly killing him, but making a move would destroy someone else. How can something that feels so right be absolutely impossible?
Call me biased, but Abby has a way of writing that just makes you feel at peace, even when the characters in her story are really going through it. I have found myself turning to Abby’s books when I need that peace; when I need a distraction from my own hardships, problems, and stressors. The Night We Met is no different.
I made sure to get a signed copy because this was the first Abby book that had come out after I became a fan but I thought that I wouldn’t be able to read it until after school ended in May. But life had other plans. Turns out, I needed it. I needed the peace that Abby gives me with her writing – the distraction from my current school and health issues. The Night We Met absolutely delivered that distraction.
As usual, I love the MMC – Chris is a wonderful guy and a book nerd – what more could you want? And Larissa is a fantastic leading lady who just happens to have made a wrong choice but that’s okay. Both characters were excellent and believable. It was great to see so many characters and references to past books (no spoilers on who though). Every Easter egg always made me happy because I now have read every Abby book and understand every reference.
I really love Abby’s books and this one falls into that notion; I stayed up late into the night reading it just so I could get to the end and not have to wait to finish it. And it provided me the much-needed escape from real life that we all seek when we read.
If you want a heartwarming story (with a little drama) and an easy, friendly escape from life definitely look into Abby’s books and into the Night We Met. If you are unfamiliar with Abby’s books, technically every book is a standalone but feature characters, places, and events from other books of hers. They all exist is the same universe – but you could read a random one and not feel as if you are missing something. But I highly suggest you read them in publishing order for the best experience – I did not because I didn’t know any better and while I enjoy my Abby journey, I wish I had read them in publication order for the best experience. And be sure to come back and tell me which one is your favorite and which MMC you love most!
